On July 20, 1967, the first board meeting of what was then known as Central Oklahoma Area Vocational Technical School was held in Drumright. That board meeting preempted the hiring of the first superintendent on November 13, 1967. In August of 1968, citizens of the Central Tech district approved a $935,000 bond for construction of the original Central Tech building in Drumright, and on August 22, 1970, the first classes were held at the Drumright campus. Construction continued in Drumright as Central Tech was growing fast. An adult training facility was built in 1973, a driving range for Truck Driver Training in 1974, a 30,000 sq. ft. Trade and Industrial building in 1977, a graphics communications building in 1979, an administrative and high technology addition in 1983, a 4,608 foot addition to the north end of the main building in 1988, and a telecommunications wing in 2001 that brings the Drumright Campus to where it is today. |
