CareerTech students and their advisors from six north central Oklahoma schools participated in the annual Fall Leadership Conference for the North Central District of Skills USA/VICA, held Nov. 4th on the campus of Central Technology Center in Drumright.
The theme for this year's conference was "Champions at Work" as 135 students participated in workshops designed to develop their leadership skills and prepare them for the career fields of their choice. Statesmen pins were awarded those who excelled in leadership skills at the conference. Schools participating in the leadership conference included: Central Tech, Drumright; Central Tech, Sapulpa; Lincoln Academy, Stillwater; Meridian Tech, Stillwater; Indian Capital Tech, Tahlequah; and Indian Capital Tech, Muskogee. Dr. Anita Reynolds, campus director at Central Tech, began the conference with cosmetology instructor Monica Frick and cosmetology student Mattie Morris presenting encouragement to participants to pursue leadership roles through Skills USA. Morris is State Secretary for Skills USA. Organizational offices led the workshops for chapter offices to teach them details of their roles and duties as Skills USA leaders.
Five of Frick's students: Mandi Parish, Bristow; Kasey Ross, Sapulpa; Heather Taylor, Cushing; Brittany Wilson and Ashley Toothman, Cleveland, were recognized as Skills USA/VICA Statesmen.
Assisting the students and their advisors with the Drumright leadership meet were Julie Tapp, State Director of Skills-USA/VICA and her assistant, Kim Wills of the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech Education. |
