Students and their advisors from Central Technology Centers in Drumright and Sapulpa joined 120 technology center student leaders from across the state recently at the Second Annual Career Tech Student Leadership Day at the Capitol March 31.
The event was designed to help students better understand how their government works and why exercising their right to vote is important.
"Our students saw first-hand how leadership roles can make a difference," Brenda Cox, Counselor, said. "They were invited to sit in the House or Senate Chambers and see first hand where their legislators sit and debate bills relating to their districts and the state of Oklahoma ."
Rep. Jari Askins shared her thoughts with the students on leadership, as well as what it is like to work as a female legislator. Also, George Johnson, director of communications at the Oklahoma Department of Human Services will speak about leadership and taking ownership of your own life followed by a tour of the Governor's Mansion.
"This is an exciting time in Oklahoma government with a turnover in leadership," Cox said. "It's important that our students get to know their legislators and how their votes affect their lives." |
