One hundred twenty five students of 8 th through 10 th grade age attended four days of fun and action-packed career awareness training at the annual Technology Summer Camp at Central Technology Center in Drumright June 1-4.
Camp coordinator Regina Foster, Davenport , directed planning and event coordination as the youthful army moved through four career clusters for hands-on experience in the areas of Health Science & Human Services, Information Technology-Arts & Security, Manufacturing-Architecture & Construction, and Transportation Technology.
Each student at the camp spent one day in each cluster area with specific instruction in Health Careers Certification, Surgical Technology, Cosmetology, Computer Network Administration, Graphic Design, Offset & Screen Printing, Telecommunications, Criminal Justice, Construction Trades, Commercial Electricity, Machining, Welding, Motorcycle, Auto and Diesel Technology, as well as the mathematics and physics classes in the Oklahoma School of Science & Mathematics Regional Center at Central Tech.
"The Technology Summer Camp is designed to help our youth begin to think about what they will do later for a career and let them have some fun exploring. Each gets an opportunity to try something new and different that challenges their minds while they utilize their hands and minds to make something tangible they can take home as a reminder of their week with us," said Foster. "Their enthusiasm and curiosity is both inspiring and challenging to our staff." |
