Eight adult students in instructor Todd Prough's Surgical Technology program at Central Technology Center walked out of the classroom-lab, Friday evening, June 18 th , across the stage, and into the first days of their new careers. Prough says each of the new graduates will soon be taking the examination for national certification as a Certified Surgical Technician. Guest speaker for the graduation event was Jerri Oosting, RN, Clinical Director for Stillwater Medical Center . Oosting reminded the class that while they will, for the most part, work in obscurity as far as the surgical patients are concerned, they will be a critical element in successful surgical procedures in hospitals and emergency rooms throughout the area.
All of the Central Tech Surgical Technology students have one hundred or more hours of on-site clinical experience as a student in the surgery suite when they graduate and most have commitments for employment from local or regional hospitals when they successfully complete their studies and gain their certification.
