Chase Capehart, Kiefer, won 1st Place in the nation recently in a welding helmet student design competition sponsored by Jackson Products. The contest was part of the American Welding Society annual show at the Trade Center in Chicago , IL .
The Oklahoma welding student's winning design has a simulated steel metal platting painted on the helmet and features a metal plate eagle on each side.
As First Prize winner , Capehart was presented with a new $400 welding helmet that features special viewing glass that automatically changes from light to dark as the welder strikes an arc. The special viewing glass in the helmet eliminates the need for the welder to constantly be raising and lowering his hood as he works.
Capehart says he will give the winning helmet he designed to instructor John Thorpe for display in the Welding-Fabrication Technology classroom at Central Tech. |
