Christin Massey, 18, a Health Careers Certifications student at Central Technology Center , Drumright, has been voted Northeastern Oklahoma Regional Representative for Health Occupations Students of America professional organization.
The Sand Springs native is currently employed as a Certified Nurses Aide working with Alzheimer's Disease patients in a nursing home. Christin is following the precedent set by her mother and sister with a career in healthcare. She especially likes working with the Alzheimer's patients because "it is like a ministry to them. You have to first learn about their past and then draw on those experiences to reach them and help them. I find that singing to them is often a good way to calm fears and anxieties and open up communication with them."
Massey, who won 3 rd Place honors in CPR and First Aid competition at the national HOSA skills meet last June, will be returning to the national skills competition in Nashville in 2005 seeking the elusive Gold Medal for her skills developed at Central Tech.
The HOSA professional organization for healthcare students in CareerTech and other training institutions has 60,000 active members in 38 state associations nationwide. |
