JOB FAIR A BIG SUCCESS FOR BRISTOW AREA

Over 450 area residents visited with twenty employers and their representatives during the April 22nd daylong Job Fair held at the Bristow High School Gymnasium. Those responding to the opportunity to apply for immediate job openings across the state came from 27 communities in Oklahoma. Sixty-two per cent said they are currently unemployed and are ready to go to work.

Business representatives participating in the Job Fair were extremely enthusiastic about the number of people responding and the level of job skills and experience offered by those applying for work. It is unknown how many will be employed as a result of the event in as much as many were asked to make themselves available for follow-up interviews and additional personal information.

Sponsored by Central Tech, the Bristow Chamber of Commerce, Bristow Public Schools, Kwikset Inc., and Workforce Oklahoma, the Job Fair was timed to coincide with the closing of the Kwikset plant in Bristow and statistical evidence of others out of work in Creek and surrounding counties.

Central Tech Superintendent Phil Waul said he and others from the sponsoring agencies were overjoyed at the participation by employers in the state and by residents in the area. “We had quality jobs being offered by very sound business firms and great opportunities available for those with the proper skills and background. We deeply appreciate the employers who took time from busy schedules to come and participate,” said Waul.

Waul was also quick to praise the efforts of his fellow educators at Bristow Public Schools for making their facilities available for the event, as well as the Bristow Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Oklahoma and officials at Kwikset for their work in putting the Job Fair together and their assistance on the day of the event.
