Six student members of the National Technical Honor Society at Central Technology Center, Sapulpa, paid a visit to legislators representing communities in the Central Tech school district thanking each for their continued support of the Oklahoma CareerTech system.
Participating in the National Technical Honor Society Day at the Capitol were Rogelio Briseno, Casey Baker, Rocky McDaniels, and Delana Jett, all of Sapulpa , as well as Timber Akins and Cailsey Counts of Kellyville. The teens were accompanied by Linda Enlow, Assistant Campus Director at Central Tech Sapulpa and Supt. Phil Waul.
The NTHS visit to the Capitol was designed to get the students an opportunity to meet their legislators personally and say “Thank you” for their support as well as see state government in action. “This also gave us opportunity to show the legislators the outstanding caliber of students we have in our CareerTech programs,” said Enlow.
While at the Capitol, the NTHS students observed both houses of government in session and were permitted to enter the House chambers for official recognition by Speaker of the House Rep. Todd Hiett. The six Sapulpa and Kellyville students visited with Rep. Hiett as well as Rep. Brian Bingman and Sen. Ted Fisher of Sapulpa . The youths then enjoyed lunch on the second floor rotunda of the Capitol.
After their tour of the Capitol, the Central Tech honor students were given a guided tour of the Governor's Mansion and Pavilion. Enlow indicated that this was the first trip to the State Capitol for each of the six tech students. |
