Area farmers and ranchers will have an opportunity to sign up for a Premise ID number Monday, December 5th, at the Central Technology Center Seminar Center in Drumright. No advance registration is required and there will not be any charge for the sign up program.
A national animal information system is being established to support livestock producer's efforts at animal disease control, monitoring, and surveillance and eradication. The goal of the National Animal Identification System is to have the capability to identify all animals and premises that had direct contact with a foreign animal disease within 48 hours after discovery. The system will require a uniform premises identification system; a uniform and nationally recognized individual animal numbering system; a uniform and nationally recognized numbering system for groups or lots of animals; and a uniform numbering system for non-producer participants.
Bill Inman, Agricultural Business Management program coordinator for Central Tech, said: “This is a great opportunity for our livestock producers to register their premises. Registering does not increase the producer's liability, instead, it actually provides a greater level of protection for our investments. The information will be kept private in a secure database and the producer will hold control of personal information with computer user names and passwords.”
The first priority is to establish the national premises system and Premise ID Sign Up day at Central Tech will permit local livestock producers an opportunity to register their locations where livestock are produced, raised and kept. Sign up will be available from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. in the technology center's Seminar Center at 3 CT Circle on north Highway 99 in Drumright.
