Certified Nurse Aide Course Offered

Due to industry demands, Central Tech's Drumright Campus will be offering a summer Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program. “By the year 2030, thirty-three million people will be seniors and one in five will need some type of long-term care. This is one of the fastest growing fields of employment,” says Patti Pouncil, Adult Career Development Coordinator for Central Tech's Drumright Campus.

Central Tech offers a Long-Term Care/Home Health Certified Nurse Aide training program. Students in this program assist the nursing staff in maintaining a high level of patient care, including taking vitals, patient welfare, nutrition, and infection control. It is generally accepted throughout the medical community that becoming a CNA is the best first step for those considering a more advanced healthcare education goal. This program gives the student an excellent base of knowledge in medical terminology, human anatomy, and patient care methods including CPR. Each student in the Certified Nurse Aide training program must complete 112 hours of training, including extensive hands-on clinical work in an actual healthcare setting. Finally each student must pass certification examinations authorized by the Oklahoma State Department of Health to become certified to work in the healthcare industry as a Long-Term Care/Home Health Nurse Aide.

Certified Nurse Aides can find employment in home healthcares, clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes throughout the state. CNA's provide services to people needing short-term care while recovering from medical situations, or provide care to seniors living independently but needing assistance with meals or medications. CNA's may also provide full-service care for the elderly and disabled in residential care facilities.

Good employees are vital to the quality of care each patient receives, and good employees are developed through quality training. Advancement opportunities, flexible working hours, competitive benefits and continuing education all contribute to people joining the long-term care profession. Plus, you will have satisfaction in knowing that you make a difference in the lives of the people you serve.

Central Tech offers this certification program on both Drumright and Sapulpa campuses, with several starting dates throughout the year. The next class on Drumright Campus will begin May 22nd and end June 22nd . It will be offered as a daytime class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For enrollment information for this program or for other exciting healthcare education programs, please call Central Tech at (918) 352-2551, ext. 260.
