Business leaders and representatives from fourteen Creek and Tulsa county firms took a day away from the office March 30 th to venture to the campus of Central Technology Center in Sapulpa and give personal assistance and advice to students preparing to enter the workforce very soon.
The annual Interview Seminar on the Sapulpa tech campus is designed to give students in Sonya Hendrix's Business and Information Technology (BIT) program and Susie Shanahan's Administrative Assistant Medical-Legal programs opportunities to be interviewed by actual business professionals before they apply for real for employment in the fields of their choice.
The professional interviewers told the students to "be enthusiastic when you are interviewed. Your attitude is extremely important. Smile and look the other person in the eyes," said one interviewer. Another told her audience: "Avoid one-word answers to questions. Talk to us and sell yourself. You are your greatest asset and you need to present your self in a personal but professional manner."
Interviewers were unanimous in advising their listeners to "ask for the job." It surprising, they say, how many times they interview prospective employees in their corporate offices and the applicant leaves the interview without ever asking for the job.
Business firms participating in the event covered the wide range of career training the students experienced in their year at Central Tech. Administrative Assistant Legal students had law firm representatives interview them while AS Medical students were interviewed by regional hospital staff members. BIT students were interviewed by reps from banks, manufacturing, trucking and other types of businesses.
The business firms and their representatives that participated in the Interview Seminar included: Bradd Brose, American Heritage Bank of Sapulpa; Sherri Dawson, Eldridge, Cooper, Steichen & Leach law firm; Andrea Everage, Fellers, Snider law firm; Tonja Pitzer, Hanson & Holmes law firm; David Phillips, IBM Global Services; Gloria McCurdy, Oklahoma National Bank; Bill Bryan, Olsten Staffing Services; Chris Burns, OMNI Medical Group; JoAnn Bolton, Physician Billing; Tammy Davis and Leslie Runyan, St Francis Health System; Cari Brannon and Rachel Steward, Tulsa Regional Medical Center; and Mike Odon, T.D.
