Central Technology Center, Drumright, held a graduation ceremony for the Adult Education Certified Nursing Assistant Fall 2005 class. The students in the program came from diverse backgrounds, but all have a common goal-to work in the exciting and growing healthcare field and to better themselves for their family's future.
The students learn to assist the nursing staff in maintaining a high level of patient care, including taking vitals, patient welfare, nutrition, and infection control. It is generally accepted throughout the medical community that the CNA Long-Term Care/Home Health Aide program is the best first step for those considering a more advanced healthcare education goal. The program gives the student an excellent base of knowledge in medical terminology, human anatomy, and patient care methods including CPR. This is an excellent springboard into other medical education paths from nursing to medical school.
Each student in the Central Tech program must complete 112 hours of training, including extensive hands-on clinical work in an actual healthcare setting. The students must pass certification examinations authorized by the Oklahoma State Department of Health to become certified to work in the healthcare industry. Certified Nursing Assistants can find employment in home healthcare, clinic, hospital, and nursing home settings throughout the state.
