Sometimes it takes a little extra help to get further in life.
Central Tech’s Education Service Center (ESC) program gives students the “jump start” they need to move into vocational training classes that lead to good paying jobs. Students are offered classes in math, reading, language, GED preparation, employability skills, driver’s permit, career search, and keyboarding and computer applications.
After completing the ESC program, students often continue their training at either Sapulpa or Drumright campus. Former ESC students have enrolled in and successfully completed a variety of Central Tech classes: Surgical Technology, Practical Nursing, Network Security and Administration, Welding, Diesel Mechanics, Business and Information Technology, and Administrative Assistant.
The ESC program is built on four educational principles. First, students need a non-threatening learning environment to succeed. Therefore, there are no grades. Instead, the program focuses on competencies and evaluates those with pre-tests and post-tests on all students. Second, students must experience success. Therefore, the curriculum is structured in short attainable lessons and is offered in small classes with intensive teacher support. Third, students have a variety of learning styles. Therefore, the curriculum is offered via several strategies and media, such as videos, teacher/peer tutoring, computer-aided instruction, group lessons, games, and hands-on exercises. Finally, some students need immediate access to education that is short term. Therefore, the program is open-entry (begins every Wednesday) and open-exit (ends when goals have been completed) and focuses on meeting precise student needs.
ESC classes are offered at both the Drumright and Sapulpa Campuses. Students 16 years old and older who are sponsored by an agency (WIA, DHS, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.) or plan to attend Central Tech vocational classes may be eligible for the program.
